"Bnai Bayit" is a Hebrew expression that signifies people who are "like one of the family," "a close friend," or "a member of the household." The Bnai Bayit project ("Bet Bet" for short) was founded to welcome Israelis studying in the United States and Canada for advanced degrees into our homes and communities--to offer our Israeli visitors a true sense of family, friendship, hospitality and a "home away from home." Every interested Israeli graduate student is matched with a local Jewish host family for the academic year. Bet Bet believes that opening our individual homes and hearts to these young Israelis is the right thing to do. Such person-to-person relationships are not only rewarding and fun but also a vital component of building stronger connections between the world's two largest Jewish communities.

Bet Bet was formally established in 2016 in New York City out of the inaugural Wexner Summit Initiative - Stronger Together - (Re)Imagining the North American Israel Relationship. Bet Bet plans to expand to additional communities across the United States and Canada.
